How do I record audio from different instruments simultaneously in different tracks?
Q. I would like to get the hardware required for my computer so that I'm able to record different audio inputs (instruments like the base, the guitar, drums, piano, etc) in different tracks. Right now I'm using Audacity (free version) which allows me to record only one instrument at a time through the 1/8" mic input. Is there any other way to connect the audio to achieve a simultaneous multitrack recording?

How to find the audio controller in a motherboard without seeing the audio chip?
Q. I tried to install the audio driver given in the motherboard CD. But it is not installed. Is there any device manager to find out the controller chips in the motherboard?

A. Audio cards talk to the processor normally through the PCI bus (outboard) and through the I/O Controller. There is no destinct processor to device controller, such as with Video that might have an "Intel 82865G\PE\P Processor tp AGP Controller" (in the case of a Dell Intel laptop). An audio device driver for an onboard audio card is normally easily installed (as you would think). An "Audio controller" is a device that is viewable on an audio device driver once installed. Simply find the audio device (go to device manager, then expand the "Sound, video and game controllers" tree list. You will find a unique brand audio device there. For example, on my laptop "SigmaTel C-Major Audio". (you can ignore the standard "Audio/Video Codecs", or… [cont.]

Q. How to copy a song with only audio from left channel to a new audio file with both speakers playing audio coming originally on the left side. I can do it on my receiver but want to make actual audio copies on my computer so I can make a cd with just these tracks...How can I do this? try it with behind blue eyes...its awesome

A. Program: Audacity. Lame if needed to encode to mp3: Save in wav format and burn to CD-R if you want the disk to play on any player, new or old. Tutorial for reference: Method. Open the music track. Select "split stereo track" from the track menu. (The down arrow on the left panel of the track to the right of the track title.) Delete the right track. (The "x" on the left panel.) Go to Project / "add new audio track". Creates a blank track. Use ctrl+a to highlight the left track. Go to Edit / Copy Left click on the blank right track. Go to Edit / paste. You now have a copy of the left track on the right track.
