A watch is a timepiece that is made to be worn on a person. The term now usually refers to a wristwatch, which is worn on the wrist with a strap or bracelet. In addition to the time, modern watches often display the day, date, month and year, and electronic watches may have many other functions. Most inexpensive and medium-priced watches used mainly for timekeeping are electronic watches with quartz movements. Expensive, collectible watches valued more for their workmanship and aesthetic appeal than for simple timekeeping, often have purely mechanical movements and are powered by springs, even though mechanical movements are less accurate than more affordable quartz movements. Before the inexpensive miniaturization that became possible in the 20th century, most watches were pocket watches, which often had covers and were carried in a pocket and attached to a watch chain or watch fob. Watches evolved in the 1600s from spring powered clocks, which appeared in the 1400s. PartsFrom Wikipedia under the

Q. I have went through many analog watches, each lasting about 2 years. Now, I am wondering, what causes them to die? Does anybody know? And does anybody know how to fix these watches? Well, the watch isn't a windup - you don't have to twist anything to make it work. I am assuming it is a battery, but the back is all sealed up and has no screws to take off to unseal the back. If I buy a battery, how do I know which battery to get? Asked by Unknown Person - Sun Oct 19 19:40:36 2008 - - 4 Answers - 1 Comments A. 2 years sounds about right for the battery in a fairly standard watch. The backs of most watches appear sealed (like in this picture: ). These actually pop off to expose the battery compartment beneath using a small blunt lever. The best bet though is just to take it to a local jeweller. Here in the UK most jewellers will do you a replacement battery and fit it for you for less than 5 (about $8). You can do it yourself by prizing the back off with a small screwdriver or similar. Be careful not to scratch or buckle the back though - it's very easy to do. One thing to be aware of is that most waterproof watches are not waterproof once you have changed the battery, unless you actually send it back to the manufacturer.
