who is responsible for pipes in the ceiling?
Q. I bought my home (condo) seven years ago and it is now about twenty years old, which is fairly new. And i had to replace a six foot piece of corroded gas line because of dripping water from a hot water line that was never properly secured. they charge me $950.00 to replace the gas line and still have to replace the water lines that have corroded. is the condo development at fault since the water pipes were never properly sealed? all these pipes were inside the ceiling so any inspection that i did would not have revealed this problem. i live in brick town new jersey. any advise welcomed.

A. I'm not an expert or anything but you have lived there now for 7 years and I don't think you would actually be able to talk the condo development into paying for those repairs for you. They will find some excuse to not pay. Is there anything about that in your homeowners insurance? Maybe have an inspector look at the pipes in other peoples' condos and see if they are like yours??

Can you give me a simple way to connect copper pipes so they don't leak?
Q. We live in a rural area on well water and we have at least one leak a month in the copper pipes. This is such a headache. Do you know a more simpler way than sweating or soldering the pipes together? We tried glue, but it does not hold. Do you know of another all around solution to the copper pipes? Can they be replaced altogether with another kind of pipe? Please try to answer all the questions, if you can?

A. sounds like you have type m cooper pipe replace with type Lcooper blue markings and problem be gone

How can I keep my pipes from getting clogged with laundry lint?
Q. We used to have a washing machine where the rubber drain hose let the water out in a laundry tub. We kept a lint catcher or even a piece of nylon hose over the end and it caught quite a bit of lint before it could get into the household drain pipes. Now we have a washing machine which has the rubber drain hose going right into a pipe on the wall behind the machine. Do they sell lint catchers to attach at the end of that hose or some contraption to keep the plumbing from getting clogged or isn't that a concern when the drain hose goes directly into a pipe? I'm afraid that nylon hose would be pretty disgusting hanging directly in the pipe and would need to be removed several times per week. Does anyone have a solution?

A. My washing machine has a lint catching, plastic toothed gizmo which traps and lint when the water is recycled in the wash and rinsed cycles. Maybe you can configure something in yours or it may even have one that you don't know is there. Mine is removable so that the lint can be cleaned.
