Electric discharge machining (EDM), sometimes colloquially also referred to as spark machining, spark eroding, burning, die sinking or wire erosion, is a manufacturing process whereby a wanted shape of an object, called workpiece, is obtained using electrical discharges (sparks). The material removal from the workpiece occurs by a series of rapidly recurring current discharges between two electrodes, separated by a dielectric liquid and subject to an electric voltage. One of the electrodes is called tool-electrode and is sometimes simply referred to as ‘tool’ or ‘electrode’, whereas the other is called workpiece-electrode, commonly abbreviated in ‘workpiece’. When the distance between the two electrodes is reduced, the intensity of the electric field in the volume between the electrodes is expected to become larger than the strength of the dielectric (at least in some point(s)) and therefore the dielectric breaks allowing some current to flow between the two electrodes. This phenomenon is the same as the breakdown of a capacitor (condenser) (see also breakdown voltage). A collateral effect of this passage of current is that material is removed from both the electrodes. Once the current flow stops (or it is stopped - depending on the type of generator), new liquid dielectric should be conveyed into the inter-electrode volume enabling the removed electrode material solid particles (debris) to be carried away and the insulating proprieties of the dielectric to be restored. This addition of new liquid dielectric in the inter-electrode volume is commonly referred to as flushing. Also, after a current flow, a difference of potential between the two electrodes is restored as it was before the breakdown, so that a new liquid dielectric breakdown can occur.

What is the name of this Fighting Game?
Q. I remember playing this game at those machines inside the laundry place. It consisted of Kids fighting, kinda like street fighters. I remember there was this girl who threw out hearts at you. Another girl looked like a robot because her face was like metal and had little antennas and she made like a big electrical discharge. Please help me find this game.

A. holy hell now that you mention it I remember playing a game like that too... I can't remember it was at my cousin in Ireland's house... man now I'm never gonna stop wondering...

Has time itself stopped or is my laptops clock playing up?
Q. I must have some weird electrical discharge emanating from the machines.

A. I think something extraterrestrial is interfering with your machinery...did Scully tell you it was electrical discharge? Don't you remember what happened with Billy Miles? Or have they gotten to you and your dangerous memories... :)

washing machine - no agitation?
Q. i recently moved, and when i went to use my washer, it wouldnt agitate, and water spilled out underneath. the discharge hose was off, so i fixed that. while i was under there i checked all of the electrical connections and everything seemed ok... any ideas? i appreciate it. ok, this washer worked great before the move... now, it will fill with water, but time for agitation, it does nothing. no noise, nothing. spin cycle works... Im not sure what kind it is off the top of my head, i want to say whirlpool.

A. Is it a Whirlpool or manufactured by Whirlpool? If so, there are two little plastic cogs inside the agitator that are probably worn out. (This is experience talking here!!) They only cost a few bucks and are easy to replace. I think I got them from partsdirect.com - or someplace like that. The above assumes that the motor is OK. Does the pump work?
