Cleanliness is the absence of dirt, including dust, stains, bad smells and garbage. Purposes of cleanliness include health, beauty, absence of offensive odor, avoidance of shame, and to avoid the spreading of dirt and contaminants to oneself and others. In the case of glass objects such as windows or windshields, the purpose can also be transparency. Washing is one way of achieving cleanliness, usually with water and often some kind of soap or detergent. In more recent times, since the germ theory of disease, it has also come to mean an absence of germs and other hazardous materials. However, dirt may play a useful role in our immune systems. This shift in thinking can be traced back to 1989, when David Strachan put forth the "hygiene hypothesis" in the British Medical Journal. Strachan looked at the records of 17,000 British children and found that the greater number of older siblings they had, the less likely they were to come down with hay fever—a disease which, despite its name, is far more common in the city than the country. Strachan wondered if the older children were bringing home more viral infections to their younger siblings, priming their immune systems so they could better tolerate pollen. The "hygiene hypothesis" has now been linked with asthma, allergies, intestinal diseases including Crohn's disease, childhood leukaemia and atopic dermatitis and the list is growing. In industry, certain processes such as those related to integrated circuit manufacturing, require conditions of exceptional cleanliness which are achieved by working in cleanrooms. Cleanliness is essential to successful electroplating, since molecular layers of oil can prevent adhesion of the coating. The industry has developed specialized techniques for parts cleaning, as well as tests for cleanliness. The most commonly used tests rely on the wetting behaviour of a clean hydrophillic metal surface. Cleanliness is also important to vacuum systems to reduce outgassing. From Wikipedia under the

Asked by autumndawn29 - Tue Aug 7 18:45:20 2007 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments A. CLEAN your laminate floor with these general guidelines: Remove loose dirt by using a non-beater bar vacuum or a dust mop. With a damp mop or cloth, clean your laminate floor once a week with a vinegar solution (1/4 cup of white vinegar to 2 gallons of clean tap water) or a nonabrasive household cleaner, such as ammonia and water solution. Do not saturate the floor. Do not use abrasive cleaners, steel wool, soap-based detergents, waxes, polishes, or scouring powder because they may scratch or dull the flooring surface. Wipe up spills immediately. Avoid allowing liquids to stand on your floor. A more frequent dust mopping or vacuuming schedule may be required in high traffic or sandy areas. For tough spots, such as candle… [cont.] Answered by @y - Tue Aug 7 18:48:54 2007 Cleaning the house and cleaning new ceramic - porcealin tile? Q. I just had my house renovated. I am having a cleaning company come today. 2 girls to clean the entire house and windows for $160.00 She told me that it would take them both a total of 5 hours. I think $160.00 is reasonable. She said that they are bringing a machine (or machines) to clean the tile. The machine gets up to 95 degrees farenheit (she can adjust the temperature) I am scared with my new tiles. There is some paint on the tiles and on the grout from the painting though. Q. I am planning on moving out of my one bedroom apartment. I want to make the moving day happen in one day. I was hoping I could pack up the moving truck and drive away and then have a cleaning service come and mop, dust, clean, etc. the apartment one last time so it is left in a good, clean condition. How much would it typically cost for a service like this in Los Angeles? Asked by asg2d - Wed May 28 14:34:14 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments A. If fridge and stove need cleaning and baseboards, window jambs, walls, cupboards need a wipe down, floors need swept, vacuumed mopped or waxed---then we use to charge$75.00 an hour. It was my sister and I and we use to knock down 1 bdrm, 1 bath apartments in 2 hours. ($150) in sp.ic and sp.an (trademarked name brand of cleaner) shape for new tenants. (...but that was in West Valley City in Utah in the 90's before we got health issues thrown at us). But it still holds true today. .
