A. Lord Keynes argued that if government spends enough, even in deficit, than unemployment could disappear. The US government currently spends about 40% of GDP, a major part of it's expenditure includes services, like DMV workers, medicaid personnel, political administrations on a federal level - all these and more contribute jobs to the workforce. Further, the government outsources for goods, this is by- for example- road construction- where the workers are hired by the gov but belong to a private business, weapons manufacturers, computer techs, heat servicing et cetera et cetera. all of which contribute to the workforce having a higher employment rate than if the gov were not hiring all these, or rather hired more on necessity/only with a… [cont.]

Consumer rights for nondelivery of services or goods?
Q. I recently got married and put down a 50% deposit with a flower preservation company to preserve my bridal bouquet. I mailed my bouquet overnight to the company as agreed, and they acknowledged receipt. They also promised a delivery date in September, then told me in October that it would be ready by the end of the month. It's now November, and the company is ignoring my attempts to contact them for an update on my order status. I reported the company to the Better Business Bureau, and I'm wondering if anyone knows what else I can do to either 1) receive my preserved bouquet as promised or 2) get a full refund and be compensated for the bouquet (which cost over $200 itself)? I appreciate any advice you might have, as I am not sure… [cont.]
Asked by msmissus - Mon Nov 27 21:15:46 2006 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The Better Business Bureau is a joke. The only reason they exist is because businesses give them money to exist, while they pretend to "advocate consumers rights". I've NEVER met anybody who had a positive resolution from the BBB. You might try www.badbusinessbureau.com which allows you to report companies publicly, which might bring them to their senses. Finally, I'd take them to court, for what you think it is worth and what the boquet's actual worth is. 15 bucks gets you a small claims court summons. If they don't show, you'll probably get whatever damages you ask for.

If Bush is so worried about our economy, then why doesn't he do something about gas prices?
Q. Since Bush is commander in chief, why doesn't he do something to lower what the gas companies can charge. If the gas prices continue to soar, the price of goods and services will go up also. If the cost of consumer goods and services go up, the consumer will dramatically spend less. When the consumer spends less, our economy here in the US will go down the toilet. We all know that Bush can impose a strict tax on "excessive" profits which would indirectly LOWER the prices. Why doesn't he?

A. He's from Texas. He is already a lame duck president and whatever he does won't mean a lot -- except to the USA -- he has things in such a mess now, all he has to do is play golf until his tenure is up. Only he won't do that -- he'll probably declare war somewhere else, and promise to send all of our money to other countries. I do not like Bush as a president, doubt I'd like him as man. Why should he help the economy; he's a big rich Texas oil man, I think.

Why is OPEC decreasing production in a struggling global economy?
Q. Why does OPEC insist on decreasing production when the global economy continues to struggle? I am led to believe that every consumer good and service runs based on fuel and energy prices. Wont decreasing production continue to hurt our economy, job loss, and housing market? Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Asked by Steve D - Mon Oct 27 09:10:47 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. It is in the best interests of OPEC that they decrease the supply because, assuming that demand remains the same, the prices will go up. Falling prices hurt the revenues of countries belonging to OPEC. The fact that we are all dependent on fuel and have no alternatives to it allows them to get away with it. What do I have to pay in consumer prices when someone else goes bankrupt?
Q. Consumer bankruptcy filings have skyrocketed in recent years. Bankruptcies rose 94.7 percent from 1990 - 2000, causing American families to pay an additional $400 a year in increased costs of goods and services, according to the American Bankers Association. I would like to know what that amounts to for 2008 with all the bankruptcies going on.
Asked by patch - Mon Apr 14 17:15:25 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Steve is right, it is too early to provide any kind accurate estimates as to what the financial impact to you will be due to the increase in personal bankruptcies. But it will cost you. In higher costs paid for consumer items and higher interest rates in any consumer debt you take. It will also cost you more in taxes due to various government bailouts being considered. One of the political parties wants to make it easier to file bankruptcies and have a larger bailout. Both of which will cause increased costs to responsible consumers. Remember this fact when you vote in November.

A. Multinational corporations and Globalisation are a force for evil to exploit poor people and countries, War Violence and crime are caused by inequality, poverty, desperation. These are all products of a system where a small number of people become wealthy and powerful at the expense of everyone else. Capitalism does not turn a blind eye to poverty, scarcity, and desperation. Capitalism ensures desperation exists.

A. you can count on it. The high oil and gas prices since Hurricane Katrina is what caused the economy to go to h e l l. When the gas prices rose, and families knew that they had to have gas to get back and fourth to work, they had to stop spending on purchases, because the high price of gas took all the extra they had. No one in politics have yet to acknowledge this fact.
