Eusebius' Ecclesiastical History?
Q. Interested in reading the earliest history of Christianity? Free download: SEMI-Finished draft - EUSEBIUS' ecclesiastical history (Covering the First Three Centuries Of Christianity) Beats paying for the book, if the history of Christianity interests you, doesn't it? Chavmassacre: yep. But is the only source for learning how the New Testament was selected to be Canon, and somewhat why. It's also the only place [the appendix] to find out what other texts were considered by the Council, to be included, but were rejected. Important stuff, or should be, for anyone who considers the New Testament a Holy Doctrine. Lacey H: both of you, for that matter. Precisely what does Eusebius say in his history which you feel is refuted in some… [cont.]

A. Also read Irenaeus and Tertullian from the Christian side. Pliny, Pliny the Younger, etc. from the Roman point of view. Eusebius was not the only "Church Father" and obviously his History is written from a very biased point of view, and based on a standard way of writing histories back then which were not really interested in history so much as promoting a figurehead who is special in someway, and a certain set of "truths." He got this from living in the Roman Empire - its a roman tradition to write the way he did. This "history" is not necessarily what happened, just what he wants you to think happened, according to scholars.
