A. Q why are large telescopes built on high mountain? To reduce the amount of atmosphere that we have to look through and also the atmosphere is more steady at altitude so we get better seeing. There are also less chance of being clouded out - although it does happen even at 4600m! Q Exterior light affect visibility of stars? Light pollution (and radio pollution) is a problem although if it is sodium light we can filter it out. General white light is a pain but not for the wave lengths I work at.
