Q. Hi, Can a smoothbore musket fire a single lead ball, aswell as lead shot. Can it be used as a rifle and shotgun? Can you get smoothbore kentucky rifles, or do they all have rifled barrels? Is it true also that all recussion muskets have rifled barrles. I posted it here as most of you will be experts in Guns. Regards

A smooth-bore musket can fire a large diameter lead "musket ball" as well as shot. (Q2. Can you get smooth-bore Kentucky rifles, or do they all have rifled barrels? (A2. A Pennsylvania (or Kentucky if you prefer) rifle is by definition rifled. Any modern replica will be rifled. However, you might be able to find what I'm going to refer to as a false rifle. (If you do it will be quite rare and about 200 years old so I doubt you'll want to shoot it.) Occasionally trading companies would make smooth-bore muskets that matched the stock type and barrel diameter of Pennsylvania rifles. However they weren't popular since… [cont.]
