Can you adjust the shaft up and down on a Minn Kota Edge bow mount trolling motor?
Q. Can you adjust the shaft up and down on a minn kota edge bow mount trolling motor? I see there are several different shaft sizes from 36" on up.. Wouldnt the shorter shaft be better so that it wouldnt hang up or catch on anything in the water?

A. There are two models of the motor. One is a foot control and the other is the hand control. Both of them can be adjusted up or down to suit you best. The reason to get the shorter shaft is to use it on the smaller boats, not the larger 17 feet and better bass boats. Even though you may put the longer shafts on the smaller boats, the top would stick up so high it would interfere with your fishing and casting. For instance I have a 16 aluminum bass boat and use the 36 inch shaft on my trolling motor. This gives me the ability to troll in very shallow water without the top of the trolling motor get in the way of my casting. The 36 inch shaft works perfectly for me on that particular boat. But even with the short 36 inch shaft I sometimes… [cont.]

I am trying to troubleshoot a trolling motor?
Q. I have a Motorguide trolling motor that just quit working during a fishing outing. It is a pedal controlled motor on a 16ft Sylvan Sea Monster. I have tried the obvious things such as checking battery connections, etc. Is there an obvious issue with this trolling motor and any other brand that I could check?

A. The most common problem I've encountered over nearly 30 years of Bass fishing has been the speed control switch going bad. Be sure & check your circuit breaker on the battery, if so equipped. (a small plastic piece about one inch cube with a small red button not much bigger than a pencil lead Good luck.

How long a trolling motor works with a full marine battery?

A. Both MG and MK rate most of their 12V trolling motors at 40amps peak, which probably means continous draw of about 20 amps. At that rate, a good group 27 deepcycle with an RC rating of 180 or AH rating of 75, will give you about 2 hours of continous run time until it's 50% discharged, and by then you won't be moving very fast. But if your just using it for normal fishing, you can get a good four or five hours out of it.
