When the glass in the backboard breaks in a basketball game what happens next?
Q. What happens after a player breaks the backboard, say in the NBA, or NCAA BK or HS Basketball? What happens to the player who does it? is the game over, or postponed?
Asked by jumpintopanama - Wed Dec 19 20:16:33 2007 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments
A. The game is delayed while a new backboard is installed, this can take upwards of an hour to replace. If the incident happened near the end of the 1st half, say under 5 minutes remaining, the officials would just call for half time to begin and the remaining time would be added onto the second half of the game.

Q. I am planning on buying a basketball hoop soon with a 72" glass backboard, i am wondering if the glass backboard is breakable? Q. I am doing my project on Bill Gates. I want a creative way to present my information on a backboard, but I am kinda stuck. Does anyone have any ideas or inspirations? I was thinking of maybe making a computer moniter or something like that, but I can't find a way to make that work.

A. try getting a junky keyboard and attaching it to your board, or maybe design your board to look like a monitor, for example have in the bottom left corner have it say start then fold up to show his early life. have your shortcuts also say topics then fold up to show the info.

What can i use for a Tennis Backboard ?
Q. I want to practice tennis, but i don't want to spend very much money. Do you have any idea's i could use as a backboard to hit the ball against and practice ?

A. use any flat wall you can find. Brick is good but you could use any surface that allows the ball to bounce back towards you. School yards at night or weekends, business buildings on the weekend, the side of a house. Your options are unlimited.

Why don't players go for the backboard from the free throw line?
Q. There are alot of players that have alot of trouble shooting from the line. When i play with my friends, evertime they shoot from the line, they just hit the backboard and it goes in. They make every shot. Why don't college and NBA players go for the backboard on free throws, is it against the rules?

A. It's not against the rules to go for the backboard from the free throw line, but professionals obviously think that is more efficient to go straight for the ring. Some players go off the backboard but most don't. And most NBA players will rarely miss a free throw.

Why is bouncing a ball off a backboard or wall easier than getting it straight in the basket?
Q. It seems much more forgiving as far as aim when you do that. Is there a physical reason that would give the ball more range, i.e. a wider corridor of success? I think we can talk just about straight on shots because thats the effect I observe.
Asked by Barney - Thu Aug 16 10:15:59 2007 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. when you aim straight for the basket, the ball is traveling more horizontally. its pretty challanging. when you hit the backboard, yeah the ball bounces back, but the backboard slows it down enough that the ball is travelling more vertically. it makes the hoop seem like a much bigger target when you use the backboard than when you try to get it straight in.

What happens in a basketball game when the backboard is broken?
Q. Do they stop the game, reschedule it, forfeit, or do they somehow have access to a new one?
Asked by SFGiants will rise again - Wed Sep 12 03:28:24 2007 - - 11 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Every arena has at least one backup backboard. They get it out and it can usually be installed in 5-10 minutes. That's all it takes. Referee doesn't even have enough time to call in a bet.

I got a used basketball backboard but handling it made my hands and ams itchy. Is it safe? Can it be sealed?
Q. I assume that sun and rain have degraded the fiberglass surface and it is now shedding tiny shards. I do not want my son showered with these fiberglass bits each time the ball hits the backboard. I don't want anyone inhaling them or getting them on their skin, hair, clothes, etc. I'm wondering whether some kind of liquid acrylic sealant could be sprayed or brushed onto the surface of the backboard. Or should it be discarded?
Asked by Nancy H - Wed Jul 4 14:17:14 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. yup, clear spray ppaint would do the trick, the only thing is DO NOT handle the board with out protection, I only got a bit of fiberglass in my eye, and costed me about 5k to get rid of it. make sure you have a mask, goggles, gloves and have cover all your body surfaces.

Q. you know the kind that you can weigh down with sand or water and put in your front yard. What are the backboards usually made of? is it glass? plastic? A. Many are made of steel or fiber glass as the other two posters have noted. However, the best backboards are made with love. You can try to buy that at the Home Depot, but there is no guarantee Janice from plants will notice you no matter how many times you ask about the best soil ratios for tuber growth. So, like I was saying...make your backboard with pure love.
