Nounboats
From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. A boat is a watercraft of modest size designed to float or plane on water, and provide lift over it. Usually this water will be inland (lakes) or in protected coastal areas. However, boats such as the whaleboat were designed to be operated from a ship in an offshore environment. In naval terms, a boat is something small enough to be carried aboard another vessel (a ship). Some boats too large for the naval definition include the Great Lakes freighter, riverboat, narrowboat and ferryboat. From Wikipedia under the

From Google News Search: "boats" What sort of certifications/official courses are available to learn to sail large boats? Q. I am an experienced dinghy sailor and racer, but i do not have a lot of big boat experience, i was wondering where there are courses to learn about big boats and what sort of official certifications there are that you need to crew on a boat. Asked by chillaxin - Sat Nov 17 17:19:32 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. In general, there is no "official" certification required to crew on a larger boat, it's up to the skipper who he (or she) wants to take along. Having a background in dinghy racing, you probably already understand the Racing Rules of Sailing, and have a good grasp of racing tactics, both of which will help you find a spot on a boat. Check with local yacht clubs about racing schedules and show up ready to work - there's almost always a boat or two that is short handed and can use one more crew. There are also some specialized web sites (e.g. that provide a means for you to connect with skippers looking for crew. Q. I have two boats, about 1,800 pounds each and I have two boat trailers. One trailer is broken and it has a boat on it and the other trailer is good but it has a broken boat on it. Both boats are too heavy to lift off the trailer and put on the ground. How do I put the good boat on the good trailer without putting the boats in the water to switch them? Asked by Jason M - Sun May 27 12:10:01 2007 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments A. I have never done this, but I have heard of people doing this. It takes planning, two or three people, and knowing what you're doing around jacks. Here's what they did: Jack up the boat sitting on a trailer using a hydraulic jack and wood blocks for support and to protect the hull (not just from scratches, but to spread the weight across a larger area) simultaneously at six or eight points. When the boat is above the trailer, s-l-o-w-l-y pull the trailer forward until the trailer's cross bar almost knocks your supports down. Start a new jacking point. Repeat. When you're finished, the boat will be sitting on the blocks, and you can then back an empty trailer under the boat using the same technique in reverse. Good luck! Q. Boats and snowmobiles are just recreational toys owned mostly by the rich. They don't add any value to people, they just pollute. Do you agree that the environment is more important than a weekday fun time? And should boats and snowmobiles be baned in order to geduce ghg's? Asked by Dr Jello Doctor of Science - Sat Jan 26 19:28:56 2008 - - 21 Answers - 1 Comments A. No. A lot of believers understand that we can't go banning things or else the media will turn on climate scientists and portray them as a bunch of quacks who have collectively overestimated the accuracy of their science and never get their predictions right. It's very important for the AGW movement that they claim there is a problem but don't advocate doing anything about it.
