How much clothing does a teen and her mom need to last several years, maybe more?
Q. How much of each kind of clothing do we need? Other details: It gets cold and can snow and ice up bad in the winters here. The summers can get really hot and sticky. The springs can get really windy and rainy. We both need around the house clothing, she rips through clothing fast (especialy stains up school pants at the knees), she needs plain dressy clothing for school.

A. Well, I would suggest that to calculate this amount, then "she" needs to treat her clothes with better respect. Clothes are expensive! Make them last, smart one. Anyways, I would assume about 7 shirts (Sweaters and tshirts), 5 pants (jeans and stretches), 1 pair of sweats, 2 shoes (exercise runners, regular shoes), 7 undies, 3 bras, 7 socks, 1 jacket, 1 rain jacket, 2 hoodies, and anything else you can think of. You don't need a lot if you're smart and treat the clothes well. Just do laundry on Saturdays, and use clothing preserving detergents. Also, avoid throwing them in the dryer...that wears them down fast

What clothing size would an average 3 year old be?
Q. My husbands son will be turning 3 in May so buying clothes in advance. His son's mother is not responding to any emails... So what clothing size would fit an average three year old? Thank you!
Asked by shannon W - Fri Oct 24 10:05:02 2008 - - 15 Answers - 0 Comments
A. It depends on size (height and weight) of the child... It usually is a 3T but if it is a little bit bigger it might wear a 4T and really small would maybe wear a 2T but most are right on so i would go with 3T.

What clothing is worn by the british forces currently?
Q. What is the name / type of clothing worn by british soldiers now (what is the current issue) - is it still soldier 95 or has that been updated now? I want to get hold of some Army issue clothing as I figure it is harder wearing and cheaper than normal walking gear. Sorry, further details. I mean the OG trousers (rarely seen these days) and the smocks and shirts etc - is it still soldier 95? Plus what are the standard issue combat boots? That's what I need to know.

A. Issue SAS kit is good stuff I doubt it changed much since I wore it, In cold weather I used Patt.68 combats the best ever made you could probally still get them gavering dust at the back of some Army Surplus shop. Another option for you is US M65 kit well made and very hard wearing it comes in many flavours including black used by SWAT plenty on eBay. Forget Issue boots they are better I have been told but still poor, best hard wearing reasonably prices boots are Hi Tec Magnums full leather beat Danner hands down.

What is the best clothing to wear if you work outside in a very cold climate?
Q. My husband is an iron worker who works all over the country and just started working in an area that is already bone chilling. He has thermals and his Carter gear, but he is still cold. I read online about wickering and goretex clothing. Does anyone have any experience with this type of winter clothing and if so can you suggest what I should get him specifically? Or does anyone with experience working in cold climates have suggestions what kinds of clothes should he wear to stay warm?

A. Buy ski clothes, they are designed to keep moisture out. And are made for easy mobility. Also ski shopes have small heat packs you can put near hands feet. These are great I always use them while skiing.

How do you remove everyday stains from clothing?
Q. How do I remove everyday stains from clothing? Like when you sit down on a dirty curb and black soot goes on the back of your favourite white shirt, or when you're playing sports and sweating and dirt or oil from your skin get onto your clothes? I regular washing still leaves a faint grey or yellow residue on my clothes! My mom recommends soaking putting water and soap powder in a bucket and soaking the shirt, but it's sometimes ineffective. Does adding washing liquid or baking soda to the water help? Im looking for a simple method, as I've no time to scrub every single one of my clothes clean everyday or anything like that.

A. You could just start out by making your own boutique and selling it there. Or you could find a smaller owned Boutique and ask them if they will sell your stuff. Or go to a Fashion school enroll and after you graduate they may offer you dome assistance to help you start your own label. Good Luck with that.Maybe I will Buy some of your stuff if its cute.

What happens if a newborn wear brand new clothing without following the inside tag instructions?
Q. I am a first time mother-to-be and I bought lots of clothing for my unborn child and inside every piece of clothing mentions instructions of washing before wearing. And I want to know what will happen if I don't wash the clothing what will happen to my child once she wears it, will she get a rash or should I not worry about following the tag instructions inside the clothing?

A. As long as your baby doesn't have sensitive skin he/she will be alright - I didn't prewash any of my stuff - but you don't wanna find out the hard way really (he/she having a rash) so I'd go ahead and wash it all if u still have time. You can try some special baby detergent too if you'd like.

How can I avoid clothing with a high amount of toxins in the fabric?

A. Buy clothing that is only made from organic cotton or hemp and only wash it in natural products. Don't use commercial brand detergents and NEVER take anything to the dry cleaner-those are the worst toxins!

Sending clothing to kids in third world countries?
Q. I'd really like to help with this. I could collect gobs of used clothing from my church and school. Anybody know of any good organizations to donate to or some good ways to get started? Kimberly: I'm sure you're right. There are many people suffering in our country. But I have been to seven different foreign countries and I can tell you that none of it is nearly as bad as what goes on in third world countries. People born in america have hope for a future because there is money all around them. People born in foreign countries often have nothing.

A. It would probably be more cost effective to donate to the 700 Club and make a note that you want it to be designated to go to Operation Blessing and specify if you want it to go for clothing for third world countries. They provide food, clothing, medicine and medical care, glases, wells, etc. to people in need all around the world. God bless!!

What kind of laundry detergent should I use for childrens consignment clothing?
Q. I buy some of my son's clothing at children's resale shops. I bring them, wash, dry & iron the clothing just to give me the peace of mind that its clean & stain free. But you just never know with what the clothing fibers have. My question is: what kind of laundry detergent is best to wash clothing like this? What steps would you take to guarantee cleaniness of this clothing? Thank you for your answers.

A. If its just regular clothing, use tide 2x, you don't use as much and it works so well. (and its eco friendly) Also, before you iron them, if you want to add a fresh smell, spray some frebeze and let it dry, then iron it the way you normally do.

Can a clothing iron start a fire if left on at home?
Q. My wife left a clothing iron on at home accidentally before going to work today and is worried about it starting a fire at home. If the iron is left on, but standing up and not touching anything flammable, is it possible that it could start a fire?
Asked by sevenninedesign - Mon Apr 24 11:23:19 2006 - - 12 Answers - 0 Comments
A. I have done the same. I got home once and realized the iron was still on and when I checked it, it was cool. It had also happened while I was ironing my clothes one time. I had alot of clothes to press once and after 30 minutes it shut off while I was using it. My guess is that it has an automatic shut off. Most manufacturers today think about how to avoid law suits, so my best bet is that it has an automatic shut off timer.

A. Check out comapnies like or other major snow/skate retailers. See what brands they are carrying and get a feel for what styles and types of clothing are selling well. Then start small and see if you can get your items carried by one of them. You can find alocal screen printer to do some of your designs and see if they sell well.

A. Use a color safe bleach like Clorox for colors. Use regular for whites. Stop hanging your clothes out during this season, use your dryer.
