How does a dealership see a potential sale NOT financed through them?
Q. I'm interested because I've been doing a little research, and everything I've read says that dealership are likely to lower the price for a cash paying customer. If I've already been approved for a predetermined amount through my credit union, am I considered a cash paying customer because I'm not financing through the dealership? Any info helps, thanks!
Asked by zsa zsa - Thu Jun 11 01:45:48 2009 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Where are you reading this? The dealership would rather you finance through them because that is how their finance guy makes a living. If you aren't going to get approved financing through the dealership, DON'T expect the dealer to give you a better deal for paying cash vs. you getting an outside lender. Either way, they get their full amount (from either you or your lender).

A dealership is selling a car that was previously registered in a different state. Should I avoid it?
Q. I know that multiple owners, rentals, previous accidents, and odometer tampering are bad qualities of used cars. What about a one owner car previously registered in a different state (for example; previously registered in MI, for sale at a dealership in TX). Do you know if this is a bad quality or is it not really a factor? Answers plus links to articles would be helpful.

A. yes , because that car could have a heave accident before , could be under water , could be previously stolen , damaged and rebuild . Buy brand new car , now they are so cheap , just take time and negotiate price .

Is it legal for a dealership to sell a car with illegally tinted windows?
Q. So my little brother just bought a car from a used car dealership about 3 months ago, and he didn't know that the windows were overly tinted. So he got pulled over and recieved a fix it ticket and now has to pay for the tint to be removed. should the dealership have warned him of this? are they liable in any way? or is he just out of luck? thanks alot!
Asked by eric - Tue May 13 16:31:39 2008 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Once you buy it, it is your responsibility. He should have had the dealer remove the tint BEFORE he signed the papers. Used cars are sold "As is - No Warranty. As in means As is. Unless there is anything in writing, the dealer doesn't need to do anything after the sale. Especially 90 days after the sale. But I would try contacting the dealer anyway. Maybe they will be reasonable.

What do you do when the dealership cannot find anything wrong with your vehicle?
Q. I have taken my vehicle to 3 different places to get it looked at. The 2nd one told me to take it to a dealership so we did. The dealership nor the other 2 could not find any thing wrong with my vehicle. Is there anything we can do? I have a 2004 dodge Stratus. Sometimes after it sits over night it will not crank up in the mornings. the 1st person thought it was the fuel pump but then it turned out to be fine. Both 2nd, and 3rd had no idea, could not find anything. It does not do it all the time. it has been doing it for over a year maybe 2. It has went months without doing it then one morning it will not crank. All the lights and everything still work when it will not crank up. It tries to turn over but just doesn't

A. I would check the connectors to your ECU. It may have gotten loose and that is why you are getting intermittent problems. Also you may have bad connections to some of your sensors. Check the crank angle sensor and the ignition module connectors. Actually check all you connectors.

Can they legally take the car back? I traded in my car for another at a dealership. I've had the car for about two weeks now. The dealership is calling me back saying I didn't get approved for the loan. Is that legal? Can they legally take the car back? And What about the car I traded in. How am I to know that it is in the same shape it was when I brought it there?
Asked by KeenaBeena - Mon Aug 13 08:00:32 2007 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Yes, it is legal. If the dealer did not find a lender, then the vehicle contract is void. It is unfortunate, however this actually happens quite frequently. The reason dealers do this is to put you in the car so you don't change your mind while they try to get your loan approved. If you traded your car to purchase this one, then you will get it back. As far as compensation, the 'buyer' is not awarded anything and sometimes is charged for vehicle usage. You can try to fight that however, since it isn't your fault they made a poor judgment call. I don't know why people say to get a lawyer because it won't make the practice of spotting cars illegal, nor will it get you the car. Good Luck and you can email for questions.

A. a new car dealer isn't going to rip you off. the dealer would be subject to fines, penalties and punishment bureau of automotive repair better business bureau national automobile dealers association just a few who would lay down the hammer on a dealer that doesn't play by the books. i work for a multi brand car dealership and i have seen salesmen fired and prosecuted by the dealership owner for doing things like selling a car and keeping the rebate rather than tell the customer they have a rebate coming. too much is at stake and the reputation of the dealer is not going to be risked. New car dealerships i have worked for have always had high standards. they have to otherwise they would have no customers

Does the dealership provide a rental car if my car was recalled?
Q. I have to make an appointment to have my car serviced and for the dealership to make modifications to my side airbags due to a recent recall on my vehicle. I'm also having some other mechanical issues. My car is financed through Ford Credit, still under warranty, and only 2 years old. Will the dealership provide a rental car? I would like to know before I call and make the appointment. I need to make my transportation arrangements ahead of time.
Asked by Level Headed, I hope - Thu Nov 29 13:45:25 2007 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. If it's been recalled then it's up to the manufacturer to make that call on the rental. I know some dealers offer what is called "loaners" but I'm not sure if there is any cost to that or not. I assume that you've already asked the dealer about this issue. In which case your answer is no the dealer cannot provide a rental. Did you try to check with your insurance? They may have more info. Best of luck!

How much does an internet coordinator make at a car dealership?
Q. I've just been called to set up an interview for a position at a local Honda dealership. The job is an "internet coordinator." Basically you get leads from various websites and follow up on them and try to get them to set up an appointment. The woman told me the job was salary plus bonuses for each person you get to show up for an appointment at the dealership. My question is, how much does someone in this position typically make? I'd like to have some idea so that I don't get a lower then usual figure.

A. Having worked at a number of dealerships including Honda I can pretty well guaranty that you will be getting minimum wage per hour and a set amount for each successful lead. If they buy you may get a higher amount but just for showing up you will probably get less than 25 per customer. You are basically telemarketing for the dealership keep in mind that even if someone says they will come in tomorrow they may not show up until next week and you won't get paid until they show. Also you will have to keep a close eye on all the customers that show up because you might have got them there but they don't mention it and they buy and you lose your bonus. make sure you ask them about customers that you call, but they don't make an appointment… [cont.]

A. sometimes a couple days, sometimes up to a month. when determining your payoff, most dealers estimate the interest for 10-14 days out. also, we just had a long holiday weekend where banks are closed, so give them another week or so. if you have a payment due, then call the bank and tell them about your new car deal.

A. Here's the closest I could find. It's the list of biggest dealerships that also have high satisfaction index ratings. Longo Toyota in El Monte, CA is the biggest one listed, although there may be a bigger one that didn't have high customer satisfaction. (So I doubt you'd want that one anyway...) According to the Longo Toyota website, they call themselves "The World's Largest Dealership," so I I'd guess they are indeed the highest volume.

A. It is the California DMV that issues vehicle registrations and titles in the state, as well as maintaining the official vehicle ownership and registration records in California. Beyond establishing the legally registered owner during the sale of a vehicle, the California DMV also takes on the responsibility of regulating and issuing the decals, or tags, that prove that a California vehicle's registration and paperwork are current. Registration renewals require proof of financial liability, most often in the form of adequate auto insurance. To be issued a new title in your name, you'll need to visit your local DMV office. For shorter lines, first make an appointment. Bring with you: California Certificate of Title OR Request for… [cont.]

What a car dealership that is respected hire me if I'm in the army reserves?
Q. I have service advisor and sales consultant experience. Additionally, I have a bachelor's degree. However, would a dealership frown on the fact that I'm in the army reserves due to the slim fact that I could be deployed within the next 6 years? I hope they wouldn't and I know it's against the law. However, would a business owner consider you a liability if you are in the reserves as you could potentially deploy?

However would you want to work for anyone that thought twice about you being in the reserves and if it was good for the company or not? If i even overheard anyone in upper management talking about how they have to be carefull around ex military people because of PTSD or how they prefer to not hire reservists i would make such a stink along with leaving the company that day.

A. Uh, life doesn't work that way... neither do contracts. You agreed to pay what you owe and you bet your bottom dollar they will get you to pay it. Even if you return the car (voluntary repo) your credit is ruined for 7 years which means no credit cards, no car loans, no home loans, even loss of jobs. Plus they will auction off your car for pennies on the dollar and come after you for the rest. They will sue you and win, they will garnish your wages for not just the cost of the car but also lawyer fees and repo fees. You could try minimizing the damage by selling it on your own but you're still going to come up with thousands of dollars to pay it off. This is what happens when people buy above their means and can't handle it. Next time… [cont.]

A. I'm sorry to be the one that tells you this, but you have been deceived. There is no such thing as an exchange for a car unless you are willing to take a loss. Whenever you trade a car in to a dealership you are giving it away for much less than the car is usually worth. The only reason I would say to trade in your car would be to use that as a small down payment on a brand new car. I would tell you to check Kelly Blue Book prices for your car and sell it back to the dealer for that but odds are you are upside down on your loan(meaning you owe more than the car is worth.) I would advise you keep your car and pay it off unless you can sell it to someone that is willing to pay off the remaining amount you owe. Car dealers have no way to… [cont.]
