From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. Fishing is the activity of catching fish. Fish are normally caught in the wild. Techniques for catching fish include hand gathering, spearing, netting, angling and trapping. The term fishing may be applied to catching other aquatic animals such as shellfish, cephalopods, crustaceans, and echinoderms. The term is not usually applied to catching aquatic mammals, such as whales, where the term whaling is more appropriate, or to farmed fish. In addition to providing food, modern fishing is also a recreational sport. According to FAO statistics, the total number of fishermen and fish farmers is estimated to be 38 million. Fisheries provide direct and indirect employment to an estimated 200 million people. In 2005, the worldwide per capita consumption of fish captured from wild fisheries was 14.4 kilograms, with an additional 7.4 kilograms harvested from fish farms. From Wikipedia under the
GNU Free Documentation License If you enjoy fishing, can you tell the difference between native trout and the planter fish? Q. In the good old days, we just fished and could enjoy native trout. We enjoyed fishing at a lake up in the mountains, and the native trout seemed to be a firmer texture. (This is in Oregon) I just wonder if some of you old timers ever noticed the difference. I loved fishing and wish I could go as often as I use to...I really need to get out there and at it again. It is probably one of the most relaxing ways we can spend a vacation...for old timers like me anyway. Asked by *granny* - Mon Jun 1 18:51:31 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. Where I live, we have three basic kinds of trout -- hatchery-raised fish stocked in waterways by the state, wild but nonnative fish, and wild native fish. The stocked trout, which you call "planter fish," are usually sterile rainbow trout and albino rainbow trout raised at hatcheries and placed in waterways when they reach 8 or so inches long. They are easy to catch and some folks say they have a "weaker" flavor. There have been studies on the fat content, body mass, coloration, and muscle fiber of sterile hatchery fish and fertile wild fish, and it was found that there is a demonstrable difference. The wild fish had various attributes that made them more desirable to eat. I'm told that the stocked fish get better to eat as they grow.… [cont.] Answered by Chadd - Mon Jun 1 21:09:38 2009 How do you find out a species of fish when going fishing? Q. I go fishing a lot and I catch lots of fish. How to i know the type of fish i catch? Asked by fish.kills - Wed Jun 24 11:42:51 2009 - - 6 Answers - 1 Comments A. If you're in the United States, you can consult your state's fish and game proclamation. The proclamation is a collection of the rules, regulations, and other information for fishing in your state's fisheries. The proclamation should have descriptions of all the fish you are likely to catch in your state. It will also discuss limits, sizes, and other stuff like which fish are native to your area and which are nonnative or pest species. It will include descriptions of fish that are endangered or threatened. A good proclamation will have color illustrations or photos of the fish, at least for species that are difficult to distinguish. You may catch fish that you can't identify, even with the help of a fishing proclamation -- ask people who… [cont.] Answered by Chadd - Wed Jun 24 12:02:51 2009 How do you choose a good fishing pole?
Q. My husband recently bought my son his first fishing rod, and planned on teaching him to fish. But before he got the chance, we had to move and the movers lost my husband's rod! I'd like to buy him a new one for his birthday, but I hate fishing and know nothing about it. Any suggestions on which ones are good? Btw, I don't know specifically what he fishes for, but we're in tennessee and he wants to go try out a nearby lake - if that tells you anything.
