Vacation or holidays are often used spent with friends or family. A person may take a longer break from work, such as a sabbatical, gap year, or career break. HolidayHoliday is a contraction of holy and day. Holiday originally refered only to special religious days. In modern use, it means any special day of rest, as opposed to normal days off work or school. VacationIn the United Kingdom, vacation once specifically referred to the long summer break taken by the law courts and, later, universities—a custom introduced by William the Conqueror from Normandy where it facilitated the grape harvest. The French term is similar to American English: "Les Vacances". In the past, many upper-class families moved to a summer home for part of the year, leaving their usual family home vacant. Long caravan/beach holidays in the UK? Holidays abroad? Or just endlessly messing around with water bombs in a local park and when older trying to impress (failing) members of the opposite sex? Just focus on the things you love most, and toss the rest or save it for another year. -Make your lists early. Start writing Christmas cards while you're eating turkey leftovers. Decide what you're buying for each person BEFORE you go shopping. Write down all the ingredients for your holiday feast, and buy it all at once instead of running out at the last minute. As you unpack boxes of stuff, take quick photos and mark the contents on the side of each box, for easy repacking after the holidays.
