Power tools what does this means in terms of machinery ??
Q. I really what to know difference between power tools and ordinary tools .Is it specially design to do some special kind of work or it is of full power as the word describes ??
Asked by Julia Collen - Tue Oct 23 04:06:09 2007 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments
A. The term "power tool" designates any hand held tool which is not souly operated by manual power. Power tools are generally considered to be portable and light weight, such as circular saws, belt sanders, cordless drills, routers and etc. Table saws, drill presses, band saws and the like are considered to be floor machinery or light machinery. Basically any "electrical Driven--lite weight--hand held tool"is labeled as a "Power tool". Hope this answers you're question.

Are tools/machinery replacing farmers?
Q. elaborate please. and if you have any sites that would help me please list them..thanks

A. Perhaps the quantities of farmers in developed countries. Advanced machinery requires far less labor than do primitive methods. My great grandfather harvested corn by hand with a corn knife and bushel baskets. A modern corn picker probably outperforms his efforts ten thousand-fold.

what type of technique & tools are used to mine jasper effectively, preferably no blasting or heavy machinery.?
Q. when working from the top downward, what do i do or use to split the collumns of jasper along its naturally occuring fracture? Jasper is quite hard and most metal picks, chisels, and hammers are NOT effective.I have heard there is a substance that is inserted into holes that are drilled into the rock that forces it apart by slow expansion..If so, what is it and can i aquire it? If this isnt possible, what is the next most efficient and logical method?
Asked by etkallagh - Sun Jul 15 01:12:11 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. The substance is wood. You pound a dry wooden wedge into a drilled hole or natural fracture then wet it. The wood swells with tremendous pressure. This method has been used since before recorded history. A faster technique, commonly used today, is wedge and feathering - steel wedges go into drilled holes or natural fractures then steel shims, called "feathers", are pounded in alongside until the rock cleaves.

Q. What tool or machinery is used to hem a circle made of any type of light weight sheet metal?
Asked by Doc 6 String - Fri Apr 3 12:45:15 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Any tool of the type that would produce an open or closed hem on the edge of sheet metal is called a hemming die. Due to the constraints of geometrical physics, I would presume the only way to produce one upon a circular piece of metal would require a three step process instead of the normal two steps. First, the laser or punch press would have to create reliefs around the edge of the metal, to eliminate the hem closing in upon itself, as it cuts out the circle. Second, a press would have to push the circle into a die, to do the pre-bend on the outer edge, hopefully past 90 degrees, into an acute angle. Third, a press would have to press the hem closed, or to an open hem, with the appropriate spacer for an open hem. Upon further… [cont.]

A. You could do ebay, craigslist, or amazon but here is a cool site. It is called poshpoints and it runs on points so there is NO credit card at all. I have been a member for a while and love it. You even start off with 15 free points to spend and the seller pays shipping which means you get free stuff. They ask for your phone # in the beggining to sign up and I just created a fake one, you can too. Sign up here: Email me if you have any questions.

Q. i found a large rock in the woods in WV. there was a crack on one side of it with little crystals growing in it. the other side is hollow (probley somewhere 2-6in. thick) . i was told that there might be some larger crystals in that cavity. but it is so deep in the woods we only has acces to hand tools and any thing we can carry

A. If there is a tree nearby, rig up a rope/pulley thing. Over the rock, suspend a heavy weight. Have a knot or something on the rope so the weight will only fall to about halfway down the hieght of the rock. (you don't want to crush it)Using the pulley(s) to help lift the weight, bring it up over the rock. Let it fall as often as needed to break the rock.

A. You DO have special skills, D H! You play sports, right? That's team work, a necessary skill for working. Are you in any extracurricular activities at school or church? That usually requires good people skills. Do you play video games? Manual dexterity (good with your hands). As far as machines, you use a computer and different software packages, you can list those.

In a woodworking business, would things like sandpaper and rags for wiping stains be considered Cost of Goods?
Q. I do the accounting for a woodworking business. I understand that materials such as wood and paint and the factory labor are costs of good sold. I am also pretty sure that the factory machinery and tools that we use are not necessarily costs of goods sold. For me, the gray area is the little things like sandpaper and the rags that we use to wipe on the stains. We go through a lot of these and it's a pretty big expense. I just want to make sure they are accounted for correctly.

Industrial & Mechanical style paintings and artists?
Q. I'm doing a beginners painting course, and I wonder if anyone out there knows of some artists who painted with an industrial style (use of greys, machines and machinery, tools, industrial buildnings and interiors). they can be from any movement, but I just want those who focused on industrial and mechanical things. I want to use that style for my own project, which is to paint the carpentry and metal workshops near the studio.
Asked by Grains_of_Wrath - Sun Sep 2 22:50:14 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. There was a popular movement in the twenties and thirties when our culture was obsessed with things mechanical and several artists painted in the styles you are looking for. The most prominent was probably Fernand Leger but there were others like Robert Delaunay , Juan Gris , Georges Braque (first cubist) , Francis Picabia , and the Russian Kasimir Malevich. Good luck with your project.

Why won't my doctor put me on maternity leave?
Q. I operate a machine (10 ft mill) and sculpt prototypes for a living. The job can be physically demanding, not to mention dangerous with obstacles on the floor to avoid. Bending, stretching, using heavy machinery, tools and working with polyurethane foam models and industrial modeling clay in the automotive industry. I wanted a month off before my due date and he wouldn't sign a waiver for it. He said typically 2 weeks is the norm to leave for maternity leave. I am pretty much useless at work now, and they don't have other things for me to do instead. He says he doesn't want me to get fired. I know they wouldn't do that. Why is he not giving up the paperwork? What can I do to convince him?

I am 38 weeks pregnant, I work at a cash vault and was on my feet all day, lifting, pushing money bags and stuff like that. I started to literally drag myslef to work until one day I couldn't do it anymore. And told my doctor and he put me out of work. How do they make (the dies that produce) plastic model kits so accurate?
Q. How are plastic kits made! AFTER they're produced & i buy them, of course I--everybody--knows how to put them together. But how did they make those molds/dies that produce them in the first place? And how do they make the parts sooo accurate? It's obviously done by machinery & not by hand tools, right?

A. First the Finished Model is made out of steel or another hard material. A Professional Tool and Die maker then takes it and using a computer , programs the Machine to follow along the hard copy of the model and pieces. As it does this it carves out the indentations that form the model pieces. Kind of the way a Jeweler engraves a piece of jewelery. If you've ever seen that done you will get an idea. Some Molds are hand made by Master Craftsmen with high quality tools. It depends on the quality and product being made , how the mold is produced. Some Molds are only made for a certain amount of Firings, and then the molds are broken. With only a limited amount of a certain product, they sometimes become very collectable as there are only a… [cont.]

Woodworking Software?
Q. I'm building a page for my website and was wanting to get some of your suggestions. 1. What is a good cabinet design software program for a small to medium sized (home) woodshop? Are there any other woodworking software programs you would personally suggest? Thank you for your input. Jeremy www.woodworking-machinery -and-tools.com

A. Are you looking for a program that does the design automatically? If so, you'd better get a bank loan, that sort of thing isn't going to be cheap. If you are looking for a CAD type program that is affordable but effective, I suggest you try this: As as matter of interest I use TurboCad. A very powerful but easy to use program that can also do 3D if you want to. It isn't really that expensive.

This is another problem, concerning neighbors...and noise!?
Q. I received great advice here, so I am back to ask another question concerning a neighbor. It seems he does not work, and spends the last two weeks out in his front yard with what seems to be a buzz saw, or some kind of machinery/tool. It is nerve wrecking, and unfortunately I am one who works nights, and sleeps mornings. After he uses this gut wrecking noisy tool for just about all day long, until about 5 p.m. he then puts his dog outside, who barks and whines constantly. I do not know what to do, as I spoke to him, and wrote a letter twice about his dog. Very politely, but to the point. He then resolves the dilemma for about a week, then it starts all over again. This last past two weeks includes this buzz saw, in which if I keep my… [cont.]

A. ask him again politely, then if he still doesnt stop, say youll have to report him, and then he might stop. if he doesnt, go thhrough with your words and call the police to report him. that will make him stop.

A. I think it depends on the type of job that you are looking for. Some don't require any computer skills. However, if you are concerned about not having skills for a particular type of job, then take a class and note it in your application. If a job requires more computer skills than you have, an employer might still consider your application because you have a grasp of the basics or have some skills. He/she might figure that they can teach you what you need to know for the job.
