Mauritius (pronounced /məˈrɪʃəs/; French: L’île Maurice pronounced: [lil mɔˈʁis], Mauritian Creole: Moris), officially the Republic of Mauritius, French: République de Maurice is an island nation off the coast of the African continent in the southwest Indian Ocean, about 900 kilometres (560 mi) east of Madagascar. In addition to the island of Mauritius, the Republic includes the islands of Cargados Carajos, Rodrigues and the Agalega Islands. Mauritius is part of the Mascarene Islands, with the French island of Réunion 200 km (120 mi) to the southwest and the island of Rodrigues 570 km (350 mi) to the northeast. But...February is summer there so plenty of sunshine and watersports. In my opinion it is too hot in some places. The capital, Port Louis is very hot and humid November through March, but along the coastline where most of the resort hotels are found, it is less humid. You should go to Port Louis though for shopping if you have a chance. Caudan waterfront is a nice place to have lunch (there are some shops there as well). The Port Louis market is interesting. You do need to barter if you want to buy anything at the market. They will ask you much more than they expect to get. The best thing is to price things in the shops to get an idea of the prices asked.
