What objects can I put in the tank with my betta fish?
Q. I just got a betta fish. It's my first fish ever. Can I put different objects in the tank (like old shells, plastic fish)? Things that aren't specifically made to put in fishtanks? If so, do I need to clean them a special way?

A. You can add whatever you like that's sold specifically to be put in fishtanks. Don't put in non-fishtank-made things, just because you don't know what chemicals might be on it that will come off into your water and hurt your fish. Also, be careful that you're not taking up too much space in the tank with objects. Bettas are usually kept in too little water as it is, and you'd be surprised how much water those caves and castles can take up. I have bettas who love caves, and some that never, ever use them. Oh, just a quick rinse in tap water to get dust and stuff off the new things is all I ever do. The most important thing you can put in a betta tank is a heater! How do we see colors of objects?
Q. I learned from my PY course that we are seeing the "bounced" color of an object. Meaning, whatever the color of the object, that's the one that's being "bounced". What cause objects to bounce different colors of visible light?

A. white light is made up of all the colours. each colour has a different wave length.. some objects absord different wavelengths and dont absord others, the ones they dont absord bounce back into your eye. your eye containes cone cells and rod cells. cone cells detect colour by having different pigments in them - red, blue or green visual pigments. the cone cells detect the primary colours and the brain mixes them together to create the colour that you see.
