It can be used to drive an aircraft, ship, or the fluid within a pump. It consists of one or more blades about a central shaft and operates like a rotating screw or wing. A pressure difference between the forward and rear surfaces of the airfoil-shaped blade is produced and air or water accelerated behind the blade. Propeller dynamics can be modeled by both Bernoulli's principle and Newton's third law. From Wikipedia under the

Q. At spencer gifts in the mall they have a cylinder made of plastic. roughly 3 inches wide at 12 inches tall. it has a small propeller of sorts in the bottom that spins very fast and creates a tornado effect in the water. The propeller isn't shaped like a boat's. This propeller looked like a plus sign, it was about half an inch wide. The fins were straight up and down, not twisted like a fan blade. Where can I get something similar? what is this object called exactly? Asked by justwondering6400 - Tue Oct 14 16:37:14 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. It would be called an impeller. Its purpose is to impel the water to move, rather than to move itself through the water. It probably was made specifically for that particular gadget. You might find something if you search for impellers on the web, who knows? Q. Clouds are smoke like, so when an aeroplane passes in the clouds blowing the wind at a high speed the clouds are not scattered. Why? Asked by amrit - Tue Nov 13 16:54:41 2007 - - 8 Answers - 0 Comments A. Stop and think about it...on the ground the aircraft is sitting still. the propeller is acting like a large fan. Now in the air, the propeller is pulling the aircraft forward at a given distance per revolution. Therefore, there is essentially no disturbance of the clouds behind the propeller. If the pitch of the propeller is say 72 inches this means the airplane propeller will move forward 72 inches per revolution if moved through lead (no slippage) if you take the number of revolutions per minute you can calculate the speed of that aircraft very closely. propellers are almost 100% efficient on modern aircraft. Incidentally aircraft propellers are actually like wings and create a low pressure area ahead of the blades. This low pressure " [cont.] Answered by pinelake302 - Tue Nov 13 17:10:51 2007 From Yahoo Answer Search: "propeller" |
